Forgiveness from God's Account: Intentional Forgiveness

You don’t have ENOUGH funds to cover their debts—to you.
In our journey through life, we inevitably encounter offenses and hurts inflicted upon us by others. These wounds can linger, festering within us and affecting our relationships and well-being. But there is a powerful truth that can transform our perspective: forgiveness is not about our own capacity, but about tapping into the boundless grace and mercy of God.
The Limits of Our Own Account
As I reflect on my own experiences, I realize the importance of intentional forgiveness. It's a conscious decision to release the grip of resentment and anger, and to extend grace and compassion instead. But here's the truth: I don’t possess an unlimited reserve of forgiveness within myself. However, Jesus does.
Just as we depend on a bank to cover expenses we can’t afford, we must depend on God to cover offenses we can’t carry. You may feel like you’ve forgiven too much or too often—but when you tap into God’s account, you’re never overdrawing. You’re simply transferring from His infinite supply.
Forgiveness Is a Transaction
Scripture teaches us that Jesus paid the ultimate price for our sins on the cross, providing a way for us to be reconciled with God (Colossians 1:19–20). His sacrifice opened up a limitless account of forgiveness, available for us to draw upon in times of need.
When we forgive others, we're not drawing from our own limited resources, but from the abundant grace of God. Just as we are in constant need of forgiveness from God for our own shortcomings (Romans 3:23–24), we are called to extend that same forgiveness to others. But not by force or personal merit—by faith in His ability to supply what we cannot produce.
God’s Account Has No Limits
Imagine forgiveness as a spiritual transaction. You’ve been hurt, offended, or betrayed—and your account is depleted. You don't have enough emotional, spiritual, or relational “funds” to cover what was taken from you.
Instead of defaulting into bitterness or pretending to be okay, you retrieve what you need from God’s account of grace. His mercy is the currency. His love is the deposit. And His forgiveness is the transfer that empowers you to release others—even when it feels undeserved.
The Gift You Can’t Manufacture
Forgiveness is not a spiritual achievement badge. It’s a supernatural gift. It doesn’t originate from us—it flows through us. And when we forgive intentionally, we become conduits of Heaven’s mercy.
In essence, forgiveness is not our own—but God's. It's a gift that He freely offers to us, and one that we are called to share with those around us. As we navigate the complexities of human relationships, may we continually draw from God's abundant account of forgiveness, allowing His grace to flow through us and transform our hearts.
