When the Rain Falls Elsewhere
Sometimes the hardest part of obedience is watching the rain fall on another field while yours feels dry.
As a fragrance entrepreneur, I’ve had moments where I saw organizations give grant money and attention to companies that didn’t seem to carry the same conviction or commitment to community. It stung a little. It made me question why the rain skipped my ground when I’ve been sowing in faith, excellence, and integrity.
But the Holy Spirit corrected my focus: “The system may distribute the grants, but I release the rain.”
The Test of Provision
In Scripture, Baal was believed to be the god who controlled the rain — the provider of productivity, harvest, and wealth. When Elijah confronted the prophets of Baal on Mount Carmel (1 Kings 18), it wasn’t just a showdown of religion; it was a confrontation of source.
Israel was torn between two opinions: Would they trust Yahweh for rain, or chase Baal’s system for results?
That’s what the Lord showed me I was wrestling with. Not jealousy — but misplaced focus. It’s easy to get frustrated when others appear to receive what you’ve been praying for. Yet heaven often delays visible rain so that hidden roots can deepen.
“The LORD will open to you His good treasure, the heavens, to give the rain to your land in its season.”
— Deuteronomy 28:12
Heaven’s rain comes in its season, not through their system.
When Favor Looks Unfair
Sometimes God lets others “win” publicly to protect us privately. If the rain came before the soil was prepared, the blessing could drown what was still being rooted.
Elijah didn’t have funding or a following. He just had an altar — and the courage to repair it. That altar represented the heart posture God requires before sending rain: repentance, worship, and dependence.
When I shifted my focus from the “grants of man” to the “rain of God,” peace returned. I realized that Baal’s system is all about performance and optics — but Yahweh’s system is all about intimacy and alignment.
The difference? One demands sacrifice for favor; the other gives favor after surrender.
God Is the Provider of Rain, Resource, and Revelation
That sentence has become a declaration for me. Every scent I create, every bottle I fill, every story I share — it’s my way of honoring the One who provides both the idea and the increase.
As Kingdom entrepreneurs, we must protect our gaze. When we focus on who got funded, featured, or followed, we start measuring success by the wrong metrics. But when our eyes are fixed on God as Provider, our work becomes an altar again.
A Prayer of Realignment
Father, I repent for ever looking to human systems as my source. You alone release the rain, resource, and revelation I need. Forgive me for moments of comparison or discouragement. I release every gatekeeper, organization, and opportunity into Your hands. Let my business and my obedience rise before You like a sweet fragrance. Teach me to wait on Your rain — in Your time, in Your way. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Reflection Questions
- Where have I been tempted to measure my “rain” by others’ outcomes?
- What altars (habits, thought patterns, dependencies) need to be repaired in my life or business?
- How can I intentionally honor God as the true Provider of my creative and financial growth this week?
Closing Thought
When the rain seems to fall elsewhere, it doesn’t mean you’ve been forgotten. It means God is cultivating your soil for something custom-grown.
The same clouds that pass over others are still gathering above you — and when your season comes, the rain will not only bless your field, it will refresh your soul.
